NewsMuskrat Jamboree raises money for StantonThursday, April 19, 2012 - 12:53 PM Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation has received a sizable donation from an area some may not think of when it comes to giving money. The Muskrat Jamboree in Inuvik earlier this month raised $10,000 for the hospital and it will go toward the chemotherapy and I/V unit at the hospital. The foundation's executive director, Rebecca Alty, said the jamboree's organizer, Eileen Allen, got in touch with her earlier this year to make the arrangements. "She just kind of explained that they choose a different organization every year and this year they wanted to do something Cancer related, but they really wanted their money to stay here in the North and benefit the residents of the North," said Alty. Alty also said the $10,000 donation is the single-biggest donation from a group or organization to date in their fundraising campaign. "It's getting us forward and it's great to have a community event organized by somebody with the proceeds supporting the hospital," she said. Alty said the goal is to raise $720,000 to build the unit, but that amount could change following completion of the design phase. The Diamond Vacation Raffle earlier this year also raised $60,000 for the wing. CJCD Mix 100 News Similar StoriesMore Local
