Monday, April 23, 2012 - 4:50 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Transportation minister Dave Ramsay was on the move again last week, this time in Whitehorse.

Ramsay was attending the 36th annual general meeting of the Northern Air Transport Association last Thursday and he talked to delegates about the importance of air transport to the North.

Ramsay said aviators play a vital role to the economic health of the North, and as minister it's important for him to know everyone in the aviation industry.

"It's important that I was there lending support to the work they do for us, and if we're going to grow our economy in the Northwest Territories like I believe we are going to do over the coming years, aviation and related services are certainly going to be a big part of that as we move our economy along."

His speech to delegates included a talk about how the aviation industry is the lifeblood for several communities in the territory.

"Especially considering a lot of our communities are remote and isolated and depend greatly on aviation."

Ramsay also got to meet his colleague from the Yukon, Wade Itashenko during the conference.
