Monday, April 30, 2012 - 1:44 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T.- A Yellowknife man is in some trouble with the law after an incident last Tuesday.

Twenty-eight year-old Jacob Griep is facing charges of shoplifting, aggravated assault and breach of probation after he allegedly tried to steal from the downtown Extra Foods store in the YK Centre Mall.

Constable Amanda McGillivray with the Yellowknife RCMP detachment says everything began after store staff tried to stop him.

"Staff had tried to confront Mr. Griep in the store and as he was trying to flee the store he encountered the elderly female,” said McGillvary, “he had pushed her out of the way so that he could flee the store."

As a result, the woman suffered serious injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

She was later taken to Stanton Hospital for treatment of those injuries.

Griep made an appearance in territorial court April 27.
