NewsThree Yellowknife students place well at Skills Canada nationals
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Yellowknife students brought home three medals from this year's Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton. Antonio Lewis took gold in the secondary welding competition, John Spoelder was the silver medalist in post-secondary auto services, and Sebastien Rémillard chopped and stirred his way to second place in the secondary cooking competition. Rémillard finished a close second to a competitor from Quebec, five points back on a 1,000 point scale after two days of competition. Rémillard said that the national level is much more competitive and he described how he feels right before the event is about to start. "On the outside you look calm and on the inside you're just freaking out, trying to stay calm and focus. But you've always got, like, a hundred people around, two hundred people around, it builds up some nerves. You've got the best in Canada working around you." Lewis said being part of the Skills Canada competitions inspired him to work harder at welding. "I already like welding but then when I found out about it I started putting extra time in." Both Lewis and Rémillard said they would like to pursue their prospective trades as careers. CJCD Mix 100 News Similar StoriesMore Local
