Emerging NWT authors to receive exposure with upcoming book

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 - 4:28 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T - Authors such as Richard Van Camp are already well-known to people in the North, but some emerging authors will have a chance to get their name out thanks to Northwords NWT.

"Coming Home: Stories from the Northwest Territories" will feature work from writers who are having their work appear in print for the first time after being chosen from nearly 100 submissions.

The executive director for the Northwords Writers Festival Society, Annelies Pool, said the anthology could be a springboard for those authors who are thinking about making a living from writing.

"I certainly think that this will be a boost for emerging authors and it will encourage them to continue writing, which is what we want, and who knows where it's going to take them."

The book's publisher is Great Plains Publications of Winnipeg and Pool said getting them on board wasn't a hard sell.

"They were enthusiastic about the project and about the goal of it, and of course we had to agree that the work would have to be up to the standards of the publishing company."

The book will be released this fall in Yellowknife.
