NewsHousing Corp. program supports low and modest wage earners
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The NWT Housing Corporation's Housing Choices programs are returning for another year to provide support for low and modest income residents of the territory. The programs are meant to help residents become homeowners, or if they already are, help them complete maintenance or repairs on their homes. The acting vice-president of Programs and District Operations for the NWTHC, Ioan Astle, said one of the programs give people the chance to try it before they buy it. "We have another program called Help which allows for home ownership trials. Someone who wants to try out the responsibilities of home ownership without necessarily being a home owner right away." The programs are designed for home ownership but Astle said they try to look at the big picture as well. "We like to think that if you gain a little bit of knowledge about budgeting, and credit, and those kinds of issues that you're better prepared not just for home ownership, but to make other really good decisions in your life as well" Applications for next year's programs are being accepted by the NWTHC from August 1st until October 15th.
