Falvo to run for mayor of Yellowknife
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The race for mayor of Yellowknife has a new addition.
City councillor and practicing lawyer Paul Falvo says he plans to run for the mayor's chair in the fall.
Falvo said he is not running to advance a personal agenda but rather to facilitate between residents and city hall.
"The person that is elected to be the mayor is the mayor not the emperor and is not there to bring about some kind of revolution or whole sale change,” said Falvo. “The mayor's job is to be a facilitator."
In February, the executive director of the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce, Tim Doyle, threw his hat into the ring.
Falvo said he knows Doyle as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and shares some views.
"Much of what I've heard Tim say in terms of wanting to deal with crime and social issues I agree with him [on]. Those are issues we need to tackle," he said.
Mayor Gordon Van Tighem announced he would not seek a fifth term at the end of January.
