Hay River council meetings could be online in the future

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Hay River's town council proceedings are already on television, but there may be a new broadcast avenue in the works.

Councilors discussed the possibility of streaming council meetings on the internet, in addition to their television broadcasts.

Mayor Ken Latour sayid it's all about giving people a better view of what goes on in council chambers.

"For whatever reason the television broadcast is a little spotting and I think that makes it difficult for people to watch or to want to watch," said Latour.

Latour said while there is an initial quote on the table, it's still a long ways off.

"The one quote we got was going to cost about $10 000 for the course of the year to host that service. At this point that hasn't been budgeted and at this point we are just discussing it and seeing if we can find a lower rate to do it at," he said.

Right now, Latour said it would probably cost about $500 per month to stream council meetings.
