NewsDolynny concerned about how contract for Giant Mine Bypass Road handledThursday, May 3, 2012 - 1:48 PM Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Range Lake MLA Daryl Dolynny is sounding the alarm bells about the Giant Mine Bypass Road Project. He's concerned with how the GNWT selected the company to negotiate with for the project, which will potentially see the road begin at Fred Henne Territorial Park and meet up with the Yellowknife River along the Ingraham Trail. Dolynny said he wanted to see more competition among Northern companies for the contract. "The government is going in to some exclusive arrangements through their negotiated contract policy to which we still haven't received word exactly what that meant… and we don’t know who the proponent is officially," he said. Several companies did submit a bid through the GNWT's Negotiated Contracts Policy and according to Dolynny, only one company was eligible and everyone else was told no. Dolynny said he wants more transparency on the matter from the Department of Transportation. "Very little information [was given] to both public and members and hence that's why we need to bring it forward,” he said. “Obviously construction season is upon us here very shortly and I think it’s important that the public is made aware of what is happening." Dolynny added an answer on the process was supposed to come from minister Dave Ramsay in March, but none has come yet. CJCD Mix 100 News Similar StoriesMore Local
