Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Arnie Schreder is being remembered as a great pilot, teacher, and father figure by those that knew him at Buffalo Airways.

The former chief pilot for the Yellowknife-based company passed away on Saturday at the age of 69 after a battle with lung cancer.

Buffalo general manager Mikey McBryan said there was nothing Schreder didn't do during his career.

"Arnie flew everything from fancy Learjets for VIP's, to waterbombers, to Hercules, to our Lockheed Electras right down to single engine 180."

McBryan added that Schreder leaves a legacy not only at Buffalo and in the North, but around the world.

"There's I know 747 captains, Triple 7 captains, that were rampees in Hay River. So now when you jump on a jet there's a pretty good chance that one of the crew was trained under Arnie. And because he's got 36,000 hours, that's a lot of time, he trained a lot of people."

Schreder's funeral is scheduled to take place in BC on Thursday, and that will be followed by a memorial service at the Buffalo hangar in Yellowknife, tentatively scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
