Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The 1 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group in the NWT was the recipients of a very high honour May 22 in Yellowknife.

The Canadian Forces awarded the 1 CRPG with the C-F's Commendation for their work in response to the First Air flight 6560 crash in Resolute last August during Operation Nanook.

The commanding officer of the group, Major Jeff Allen, said the Rangers were singled out for their work on the ground during the recovery efforts.

"They provided site safety for the follow on investigation that took place on that location, “ he said. “[It’s] a terrific honour for my self and for the unit."

The award was a sort of a surprise as Allen said the group only found out a few days beforehand.

"As with a lot of events it takes some time to coordinate the presentation of an award of this nature. We as a unit only found out relatively recently that the event was going to take place," said Allen.

Lieutenant-General Walter Semianiw, commander of Canada Command, presented the award. Commissioner George Tuccaro was also on hand to witness the presentation.
