Yellowknife, N.W.T.   – The SPCA and the NWT Riders Association teamed up to help raise money for the SPCA's shelter late last week.

Bikers from all over the country and some American visitors made the trip for the event.

This is the second year for the event and the first that the SPCA and the Association teamed up to fundraise.

SPCA president Nicole Spencer said she was very excited when the association contacted them to be a part of the event.

She also said events like this are key for the SPCA.

"Robin Weaver, she asked us to put off a barbeque there at the event and of course we would make whatever money we made, that night Robin had informed me that the NWT Riders Association would be donating the 800 dollars.”

Spencer said the event didn't only spread awareness but also will help towards finishing the shelter.

"We try to get involved with other organizations as well, like team up in the community to show the community there is a lot of organizations that work together."

The barbecue raised $400 in addition to the barbecue, meaning $1,200 total for the SPCA.
