Battle continues over location of float plane dock in YK

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - 4:50 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The topic of the installation of a float plane dock and small boat marina on Latham Island continues to rage on, as the NWT Floatplane Association has made its voice heard once again.

There is already a dock at Lessard and Otto Drives, but they've made it clear that they are in support of one on Wiley Road, which has been put forth as another location for the dock.

Hal Lodgson of the Float Plane Association said he doesn't believe that the association has been accurately portrayed.

"I don't think the memorandum really does accurately portray the position of the NWT Floatplane Association, or the neighbours on Morrison Drive for that matter."

Councillor David Wind said that there is still a great amount of danger with having a float plane dock in the same area as non-motorized marine crafts.

"Those who are proponents of expanding the use of these two node parks, that these people also be included in the referral and the consultation that should take place."

Moving ahead, the city will be considering a boardwalk and also mooring sites in the Lessard and Otto Drive area.
