Changes in the works for HR trade conference

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Start Your Engines trade conference in Hay River will have a new look for 2012.

Earlier this week, town council talked about how to shake things up for this year and broaden the horizons for the future.

Mayor Kelly Schofield said the goal is to see if more information can be found about the previous show and there could be help from a survey handed out following that one in 2010.

"We looked at all the companies who participated and offered them the opportunity to gain feedback from that. A lot of them said that although it was a great conference, the trade show wasn't exactly what they were looking for. So that made us think that it's time to start changing it a little bit."

Schofield said one way the town plans to get those new ideas is to bring in two local consultants.

"They're offering their expertise and ideas on how to change the dynamic of Start Your Engines. We're going to keep the title of Start Your Engines, but we're just going to tweak it and see if we can alter it."

The conference is expected to be held sometime in May.
