United Way reaches out to NWT for funding proposals

Thursday, August 2, 2012 - 3:45 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - United Way NWT is launching its annual call for proposals for funding applications.

A total of $70,000 is available and the group will be accepting applications for up to $5,000.

The United Way shifted its focus from just Yellowknife to the entire NWT this past June so that non-profit organizations from every community across the territory are eligible.

The chair of the Community Engagement Committee, Tracy St. Denis, explained the decision to make this change to the organization.

"I think the United Way is a great organization. We have a focus on children, healthy families, healthy communities, and it made sense to not just focus on Yellowknife, but look at assisting the whole territory."

St. Denis said that over the last fiscal year, Northerners have shown plenty of generosity.

"The last two campaigns have been very successful. Employees work with United Way through their payroll, so we're kind of making giving easy. Not only to people choose to donate to the United Way, but they could also choose to donate to non-profits that are registered across Canada."

Groups who would like to apply for the funding have until August 31th to do so.
