NewsYK Military Police National Motorcycle Relay riders return
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The seven riders who biked to Jasper, Alberta are back home following their ride in the Military Police National Motorcycle Relay. The crew left Yellowknife on July 28th and set out along the highway, eventually meeting up with the riders from Alberta and British Columbia on July 30 and they got back this past Sunday. Warrant officer Bob Irwin of JTFN led the team and he said it was a fun time once they reached their destination. "We did a little baton pass among the crowd of us, and it was just fantastic. We had a rough estimate of about 40 riders in Alberta from the three of us so the NWT, Columbia and Alberta." While the ride was important enough, it was about raising money for charity and Irwin said they're nearing the $5,000 mark and that's more than he thought there would be. "With it being the first year it was run in the North, we didn’t really set a goal we were taking basically whatever we could get and raising as much money as we could." The money raised will be split between the Military Police Fund for Blind Children and the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.
