NewsYellowknife YWCA, Staples team up for Back to School drive
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Students know exactly what they have to bring to school with them for the new school year, but some kids are wondering how they will get what they need in the first place. Some families in Yellowknife won't be able to outfit their kids with the necessary supplies, so YWCA Yellowknife is teaming up with Staples Business Depot to try and fill as many backpacks as possible to make sure some who are less fortunate have what they need. The Y's director of community services, Julie Green, said everything begins this weekend and she would like to see people be generous with donations. "I'm hoping that we're going to see a lot of donations on Saturday. That's the first day of the drive. And through until the time that school starts, which is at the end of the month for YCS, and then after the Labour Day long weekend for YK1." Green also said consideration will be given for those who arrive behind everyone else. "Sometimes children arrive in Yellowknife and start school late, and start school with nothing, so we want to just extend the period that we can give away supplies until the middle of September so we take that group into account." It's hoped around 125 backpacks will be handed out this year. CJCD Mix 100 News More Local
