Hay Riverite set to make TIFF debut with short film

Friday, August 17, 2012 - 3:50 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. -An fledgling Northern director will be debuting his new film at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.

Ten years into his film making career, Hay River's Kelvin Redvers will gain huge exposure at the biggest film festival in Canada as his short film, "The Dancing Cop", makes its debut.

Redvers also received the news this week that his film will make its international debut at the Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany, a few days after it airs in TIFF, and he had one word to describe how it feels.

"Exhilarating is a good word. The time, you know, once it's finished, and it's done, and all of this begins to happen, you start getting into film festivals, itkinda makes everything worthwhile because then you know people are going to see this movie. You know, it's going to be shown around the world to people everywhere."

Redvers made the move to Vancouver to follow his dreams but said the North will always be in his heart.

"The North is still my home in my heart. You know, whenever I introduce myself it's always 'Hi, I'm Kelvin, I live in Vancouver but I'm born and raised in Hay River', because I'm extremely proud to be from the North."

TIFF runs from September 6th until the 16th and Redvers will be making the trip to Toronto.
