News6th Annual Herc Pull raises big bucks for Special Olympics NWT
Yellowknife, N.W.T. -The annual chore of pulling a 90,000-pound plane across a tarmac was once again on display as the sixth edition of the Herc Pull went off this past Saturday. A total of 15 teams entered this year and they raised a total of $11,000 for Special Olympics NWT, which is down from last year, but the event organizer isn't too concerned. The director of the NT Law Enforcement Torch Relay, Lea Martin, said things didn't look too good at the start wet conditions "I think effects people’s ability to pull that plane only because the tarmac would have been slippery and wet, so I was happy that dried up when the pull started." There were men's, women's and mixed categories and Martin listed the winning teams for each division. "The mixed category was actually Law Torn Run and Friends, and the men’s category was the RCMP men’s team and the ladies category was the Law enforcement Torch Run and Hauling Lasses."
This year's fundraising brings the total amount raised to around $120,000 over the past six years.
