Yellowknife, N.W.T. - What began as a small project after watching the movie "Pay It Forward" has turned into something big.

Cole Philipp is about to deliver 900 cupcakes on Thursday as part of the "Funky Monkey" fundraiser for the Tres Islas Orphanage Fund in Mazatlan, Mexico and he's raised over $33,000 in the past two and a half years doing it.

Philipp said he began with a goal of about $2,000, but he didn't even think he would get that much.

"I was thinking there's no way I'm going to be able to get to $1,000, right? And I had to set many goals for myself, just keep upgrading my goals and it's really unbelievable how me not thinking I could get $500 was able to turn into $33,000."

Sir John Franklin High School's culinary arts department baked all of the cupcakes.

Philipp said once it's done, he'll head on down to Mazatlan on Apr. 17th to personally donate the money.

"All the donors that have donated to the Tres Islas Fund is able to go down, and we help re-paint the orphanages and be able to meet the kids and stuff."

Each cupcake will come with a "funky monkey" on top of it, which Philipp said was an idea of his brother, Liam.
