Thursday, April 5, 2012 - 3:25 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - A woman facing fraud and forgery charges in the NWT may be tried in Nunavut, where she now lives.

Cynthia Aaluk is charged with fraud over five thousand dollars and numerous forgery related offenses alleged to have taken place between February and May of last year.

The 37-year-old is accused of defrauding Northern Images of over $5,000.

It's alleged she forged signatures on 15 cheques for amounts ranging from $500 to $3,000.

According to court documents, the cheques were made payable to herself and two other people with the same last name.

Twenty-nine-year-old Anna Aaluk has also been charged and is accused of using a forged cheque for $500.

The case was scheduled for crown election this past Tuesday but instead, the court heard the defence is seeking to have the charges waived over to Nunavut as Cynthia Aaluk currently lives in Gjoa Haven.
