NewsNAHO has funding cut, will cease operations in June
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Executive Director of the Healing Drum Society says the direction the National Aboriginal Health Organization provided the country is going to be sadly missed. NAHO announced earlier this month that their funding had been cut by Health Canada and that they would wind up operations by the end of June. Joe Pintarics said NAHO is not the only program to lose its funding. "The Aboriginal Healing Foundation has had their funding cut, [and] other services that had been put in place through the National Assembly are also cut." NAHO is an aboriginal controlled organization and Pintarics said without First Nations input we will end up with more of the same. "My, as unsolicited as it might be, advice to the federal government is, let's get these kinds of programs back on track. The voice of the First Nations peoples, the wisdom that they bring to their own awareness of what's going on for them needs to be part of the makeup of the solution." The cuts come as Health Canada had its own funding curtailed in the federal budget. CJCD Mix 100 News Similar StoriesMore Local
