RCMP still seeking answers on anniversary of teen's death

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 - 4:10 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Thursday will be a very sad anniversary for the family of Cody Dempster.

May 3rd marks exactly one year since the 16-year-old was found unresponsive in the alley behind Boston Pizza and later pronounced dead at Stanton Hospital.

The G Division major crimes unit is using the occasion to ask for the public's help in piecing together what happened to Dempster that day.

RCMP spokesperson Sergeant Wes Heron said there are people who do know something and police would like to talk to them.

"They feel that maybe they shouldn't be involved, or don't want to get involved, but these are the individuals we're reaching out to. So we're asking these individuals, it's time to come forward if you have information."

Heron said the investigation is now moving toward a suspicion of foul play.

"The membership working on this file have worked very hard and diligently and have now moved the investigation to the point where play is suspected."

Heron added police want to solve the case to give the family some closure.

Anyone with information is asked to call Yellowknife RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
