NewsRCMP Traffic Services increasing presence for holiday weekend
Yellowknife - It's Canada Road Safety Week and the RCMP is taking part with an increased patrol over the long weekend. G Division Traffic Services will be out and about on local roads and highways this week in the hopes of making sure everyone is driving safely and obeying the rules of the road. Constable Todd Scaplen said the goal is to get all officers out around the territory and beef up enforcement. "We're gonna work the detachments in the Hay River area and Yellowknife area and do patrols out either towards the border, out on Highway 3, Highway 4, work with the checkstop campaigns, and get the detachments more involved." Scaplen said they will be looking for every sort of infraction, but plenty of attention will be paid to those who are caught using hand-held electronic devices. "It's a bad driving habit that people have gotten into that needs to stop because I'm convinced, and I know, that the legislation if it hasn't already, will save lives." He adds the RCMP will be working with local municipal enforcement divisions during the week to ensure the laws are being followed. CJCD Mix 100News Similar StoriesMore Local
