NewsMLAs raise more concerns about Deh Cho Bridge contract
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The wrangling over the Deh Cho Bridge continued in the Legislative Assembly June 8th. Yellowknife Centre MLA Robert Hawkins kept up the fight over the contract with Ruskin Construction and how it's not being followed. Hawkins said the current contract is not being fulfilled by the contractor and while there may be disputes which arise during the contract’s life, it's not an excuse for giving in to the contractor. "As soon as are folks ask them to do a little more work; work a little harder; complete by the agreed deadline, all of a sudden now we have to pay them more money because they dispute and dislike our direction," he said. Transportation minister Dave Ramsay said the decision to roll with the current contract was on the part of the previous government. "That contract follows typical DOT contracts which shift only some of the risk to the contractor. It's not a fixed price. There are eligible areas where we can see costs being overrun and that was a decision the previous government had made," Ransay said. Hawkins criticized Ramsay for passing the buck to the previous minister when he's the one who is supposed to be responsible for implementing the contract's terms. CJCD Mix 100 News More Local
