Yellowknife, N.W.T. - While all of Yellowknife's high school kids will have had their graduation ceremonies, the big day for students at Diamond Jenness Secondary School in Hay River is tomorrow.

A total of 34 grade 12 students are about to take the next step in their lives and it all begins at 8:30 a.m. when they'll put on the cap and gowns at the Ben Sivertz Arena.

Diamond Jenness teacher Diane Papineau-McGill is the school's grad coordinator, and she said once the gowns are in place, it's showtime.

"The commencement itself doesn't begin until 10. That, of course, will be them marching in all regal in their gowns. The ceremony itself will probably run about an hour and a half, two hours once we've given out awards and diplomas and all that fun stuff."

After that, the grads will have their photos taken and return to the arena at 5 p.m. for the grand march.

Papineau-McGill said the grads will walk in with their dates for the evening.

"That's where they're presented with their dates. The girls are wearing their beautiful dresses and the boys are in their tuxes and they just look so grown up."

Among the graduating class are two students from the town of Enterprise and one from the Hay River Reserve.
