Tuesday, July 3, 2012 - 1:53 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. -   Since the ground breaking ceremony in October 2011, the SPCA has been fundraising all over Yellowknife to build the NWT’s first animal shelter.

Recently the SPCA has been able to have a lot of success with their fundraising events.

The president of the SPCA Nicole Spencer had an update on what steps the SPCA are in.

"We are actually doing some carpentry work around the windows inside and we are currently painting inside as well, and by next week we are ordering the indoor and outdoor kennels and the cat condos.”

Spencer said the brand new shelter in the NWT will have a lot of great features for animals.

"We will have the capacity to hold up to 30 dogs and 10 cats, we have a really nice state of the art wash dog grooming bay with two big tubs, we also have a examine room and hopefully we can get some spay/neuter equipment and possible some medical supplies so we could have a vet treat the animals there."

Spencer hopes that they will have everything done and ready to go for this September.
