YK prepares for $100 million Lot Max jackpot

Friday, July 6, 2012 - 2:20 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Who wants to be a millionaire?

If the stars align and the numbers match, it could be you, but only if you have a ticket in Friday's Lotto Max draw, which is offering a guaranteed jackpot of $100 million.

The top prize is $50 million, followed by 50 extra draws for $1 million each.

Ticket sales are usually brisk when the jackpot hits levels like this and the finance and lottery manager for Sport North, Chris Cahoon, said Friday could be a big day at lottery terminals.

"Over the last couple of weeks the Lot Max sales have been increasing, each week and I expect that sort of huge day."

Cahoon also said there are plenty of places around town to grab a ticket for the draw, meaning the long line-ups in the past shouldn't happen Friday.

"There are more booths in Yellowknife then there used to be, so lines won’t be as big as they may have once been, but you will see that the retailers are busy [Friday]."

This is the single-biggest jackpot in Canadian lottery history, but not by much a Lotto Max drawing in June of 2010 had a $99 million guaranteed jackpot.

People have until 7 p.m. Friday to get a ticket.
