Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Despite a few minor hiccups, organizers of the bi-annual Northern Skies International Air Show in Yellowknife are calling the event a success.

According to Mayor Gordon Van Tighem, this was probably the largest gathering of military aircraft in Canada this year, so logistics can sometimes be tough to coordinate.

He said there were only a few things that didn't go according to plan.

"The weather worked, most of the hardware worked, we had one act that didn’t make it here. He lost an engine over Manitoba, fortunately he was near an airport and he’s okay, all of the volunteers showed up. Everything worked accept we were out of toilet paper for about twelve minutes."

The Airshow kicked off with a show by the True North CF-18 Hornet and also included displays by an F-86 Sabre bomber and the Canadian Forces Skyhawk’s Parachute Team.

Van Tighem said it's a group effort to put it all together.

"There is an experience level here that you don’t find in other places, our airport cooperates amazingly and the federal authorities that we have to deal with, we have a lady that coordinates all of that for us"

The Airshow was capped off by a performance by nine of the Royal Canadian Air Force's Snowbirds.
