Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Industry, Tourism and Investment minister Dave Ramsay is becoming the most well-travelled of all cabinet ministers and the flying continued this week.

Ramsay was in Ottawa to have a sit-down on Wednesday with four members of the federal cabinet, including Leona Aglukkaq, the minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.

Ramsay said the chat with Aglukkaq revolved around finding ways to develop the territory's economy and deal with unemployment.

“We have to address the high unemployment rates in smaller communities and get some development into our territory so people have jobs and those types of opportunities,” he said. “That was the focus of our conversation.”

Ramsay also said because Aglukkaq is from the North herself, she has an understanding of what needs to be done.

“Obviously being the MP from Nunavut, and the minister responsible for CANNOR, she’s a good ally to have,” he said.

In addition to meeting with Aglukkaq, Ramsay also met with Natural Resources minister Joe Oliver and Aboriginal Affairs minister John Duncan about moving ahead with the Mackenzie Gas Project.
