NewsMLA questions Justice minister on transitional housing
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Tenants can appeal decisions under the Residential Tenancies Act, but not when it comes to matters of transitional housing. Frame Lake MLA Wendy Bisaro brought that up Tuesday in the Legislative Assembly and pressed the matter with Justice minister Glen Abernethy. Bisaro says rental officer Hal Logsdon's annual report was about dealing with the matter, which Abernethy says he intends to do, with the results of a review on the matter coming at a later date. However, Bisaro thought there could be something done in the interim before the results are made public. "I'm thinking perhaps of mediation, or dispute resolution, et cetera." Abernethy said he will bring the matter up with his staff. "I'll direct the staff of the department to talk to the rental officer to see if he has any suggestions." Bisaro also wondered if there would be any amendments to the act during the 17th Assembly. Abernethy said if a committee decides as such, it will be done. Logsdon's report contained six issues in total which he said needed to be dealt with. CJCD Mix 100 News More Local
