Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Aurora College is on the hunt for a new president following the resignation of Sarah Wright Cardinal last week.

Wright Cardinal had been president of the college since August of 2009 and now plans to pursue higher education.

The interim Chair of the college's Board of Governors, Sydney O'Sullivan, said they weren't altogether surprised by her decision.

“I know she’s had an interest in pursuing her doctoral degree for a while,” she said. “I think the opportunity came forward and she decided to pursue it.”

O'Sullivan said Wright Cardinal made a very positive impact on the college during her time there and added she brought a lot to the table.

“She brought a lot of experience, post-secondary experience, and she also brought international experience and I think that all contributed to her legacy at the college,” she said.

The Board of Governors will move ahead with naming an interim president as they begin their search for someone to take over the job full time.

Both O'Sullivan and the minister responsible for Aurora College, Jackson Lafferty, wished her well on her return to school.
