Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The annual Yellowknife Air Show will be kicking off this Saturday in Yellowknife, one of the most popular events in the city every year.

Pilots will be putting on their most impressive aerial manoeuvers this weekend for the expected large crowd that comes out for the show every year.

Mayor Gordon van Tighem said they are expecting another great aviation turnout this year if the past is any indication.

“We’ve got three Hercules aircraft, we’ve got four assorted helicopters, a large number of Snowbirds, a Hawk, which is a small jet, a Harbour II, which is a training aircraft, there’s King Air and of course, some twin otters,” he said.

Along with the air show, van Tighem also said there will be another treat on Sunday for the community with the Century Club in town.

“There will be 100-plus general aviation airplanes that will be coming in,” he said. “They’ll be spending a week with us touring around and also travelling out to some of the lodges. It’s an annual trip they’ve made since the centennial of aviation.”

The Vancouver Aquarium's Aquavan, which was in Hay River this past weekend, will also be out over this weekend as well.

Gates will be opening up at 10 a.m. this Saturday and the show begins at noon.
