Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Human Rights Commission has added three new members and a new director of Human Rights for four year terms.

Deborah McLeod of Yellowknife has been appointed as the Director of Human Rights and two other Yellowknife residents, Charles Dent and Bronwyn Watters, have been appointed to the commission along with Marion Berls from Fort Smith.

Dent talked about what future plans will be discussed with the commission and what issues they want to make sure the people are aware of.

"I'm going to have to get together with the other commissioners, and discuss where we are with the director and find out what issues have been raised, but the quality provisions in the act are certainly rights that we want to make sure everybody in the North is aware of."

Dent was also open about what he hopes to bring to the table for the commission moving forward

"I'm hoping that I'll be able to improve on how people are aware of the legislation and what it's meant to accomplish."

Nitya Iyer, who has served as the commissioner for the Equal Pay Commission since 2004, was re-appointed.
