Missing Wildcat range hood found, but unusable in restaurant

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The mystery of the stolen Wildcat Café range hood has been solved.

Just days after it was announced that the original hood from the café had possibly been taken, it was discovered in a tool shed.

Yellowknife mayor Gordon Van Tighem said the discovery of the hood brought both good and bad news.

"The good news was that we found it fairly quickly, and the bad news was then that it was evaluated against current fire suppression requirements and other requirements of hoods in restaurants, and was found to be lacking, so we still had to order a replacement."

Van Tighem said everything will move forward until the new hood arrives.

He also mentioned he would like to open up the café for a short period of time, but it has not been finalized.

"I just think it would be a good idea to let people who've been waiting for a little bit longer than we'd originally planned have the opportunity to see what the project has generated and give them assurances that we're ready for full operation next spring."

Van Tighem said it's important to get the restoration done because it is significant to the history of the city.
