HIV positive man will stand trial on sex assault charges

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - An NWT judge has ruled that a man charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault will go to trial.
A preliminary inquiry was held in Yellowknife this week for Bobby Kaotalok – the purpose was to determine if there was enough evidence to send him to trial.
In February, police charged the 25-year-old man, who is HIV positive, with the alleged attacks dating back to 2008. Kaotalok has several previous convictions, including assaulting a police officer and theft.
While Judge Garth Malokoe determined he will go to trial, Kaotalok will only face three counts of aggravated sexual assault. Malokoe found there was not enough evidence to proceed with the fourth charge.
The court still needs to set a trial date for Kaotalok.
