NewsHay River council cleared of wrongdoing by MACA
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The town of Hay River is officially off the hook as it pertains to the Department of Municipal and Community Services. A group of officials from MACA made the trip to Hay River on Monday to announce it had wrapped up its investigation into allegations of wrong-doing behind the scenes and found nothing illegal happening in terms of misappropriation of funds and a breach of confidentiality among council. Mayor Ken Latour said the delegation publicly discussed the executive summary of the MACA report and then went in camera for the rest because of specific people being named. "That includes many people within the staff of the organization since they talked to many people in the report. And so we need to keep that private." Latour said he knows the public will want to know more than just the executive summary and that will be done as soon as possible. "What council's going to do is just look at those recommendations and figure out a way to get those vetted a little bit so we're not naming names and that sort of thing. And we can get those recommendations out to the public as well."
MACA made two trips to the town in March to interview everyone involved. More Local
