NewsYKFD reports damage, no fatalities in weekend apartment fire
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Everyone is reported to be safe and sound after a fire at the Crestview Manor apartments on 52nd Avenue early Saturday morning. Firefighters were called to the apartments at around 1:30 a.m. Fire Chief Darcy Hernblad described the situation firefighters faced when they arrived on the scene. "There was a lot of smoke throughout Crestview Manor and the fire was contained within apartment 206." According to the fire department, they were able to get control of the fire within a few minutes however, due to high carbon monoxide levels, residents were not allowed back in the building right away. Hernblad said it was late Saturday morning when people were able to return. "We re-checked with our [carbon monoxide detector] and everything was good at that point so people were allowed back in their apartments except for unit 206, and that one obviously due to the amount of damage in that unit, nobody's allowed to occupy that one." The blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damages and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. CJCD Mix 100 News Similar StoriesMore Local
