Yellowknife rider returns from Rider to Conquer Cancer in Alberta

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in Alberta this past weekend saw 2,000 riders take part in a two-day, 230 kilometre bike ride that raised more than $8 million.

$32,000 of that total came from Yellowknife resident Kathy Law's team; the team came together to honour her cousin who is fighting cancer.

Law said her experiences from the ride are something that she will never forget.

“As I’ve explained to so many people, it’s so hard to compare it to anything,” she said. “At the top of my life experiences and the most incredible moments of my life, giving birth to my kids and marrying my husband are there, but I have to say this was, probably after those, the next most incredible experience of my life.”

She also said having cancer survivors riding with them was a huge inspiration for her and her team.

“It was very motivating to see all the survivors that were riding in the bike ride with us,” she said. “All the survivors had a yellow flag on their bike, so you were aware of whom they were when you were riding.”

Law has already signed up for next year's ride and the team has doubled in size bringing the number up to 10 riders.
