Yellowknife, N.W.T. - More than 100 aircraft from across the country will be converging on Yellowknife this Sunday as part of the fourth annual Canadian Wilderness Tour.

The event began in 2009 in Nova Scotia as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of flight in Canada, and has continued ever since.

Flight chairman and TV host John Lovelace said the decision to come to Yellowknife was an easy one to make.

"Yellowknife has really received a lot of attention lately because of the television exposure [it's] having. It was an excellent choice to begin with but it just seemed that all the pieces came together and we thought it would be great to get up there."

The planes will also be flying over Hay River, Fort Smith, and Fort Simpson.

Lovelace said that once the decision to come North was made, they had no trouble getting pilots to sign up.

"A lot of our people are pilots from southern Ontario. This is a huge experience for them. They would never, ever dream to come up here, a lot of them, on their own."

The planes are expected to arrive in Yellowknife on Sunday between 4 and 8 p.m.
