NewsGround officially broken on Habitat for Humanity NWT project in Niven Lake
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The ground breaking ceremony for the Habitat for Humanity NWT’s site in Niven Lake took place Thursday afternoon in Yellowknife. It was all smiles as the family and project backers came out to celebrate the occasion. Habitat NWT's president, Dave Hurley, said it was a great day for everyone who has been involved since the beginning of the project in January. “When you see it on their faces, it is emotional,” he said. “When we first met them, there were a lot of hugs and we were feeling good about everything. They’re here now and they’re part of this ceremony because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.” Sylvie Lefort and Edward Dithurbide will be moving into one section of the home along with their two children, and Lefort said they will be keeping a close eye on the duplex during construction. “We’ve been driving by ever since we were told,” she said. “There won’t be any changes there. We’ll probably drive by every day and every little change, we’ll take pictures and I’m scrapbooking every single little event.” The new duplex-style unit is expect to be finished by December.
