NewsYK 1 town hall meeting provides good discussionFriday, January 27, 2012 - 10:29 AM Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Bullying, the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics and professional development were on the docket Wednesday night at Range Lake North School. Yellowknife Education District No. 1 held a town hall meeting where the public could come out and make their voices heard. Vice chair John Stephenson said there was no shortage of input. "We had a good turnout," he said. "I'm guessing there were about 50 people there, a good mix of staff and parents. Things got quite animated, people were quite engaged and interested to contribute to on those three topics." Stephenson himself was at the reading, writing and math table and he said parents mostly just want to be involved in their child's education. "Parents present at that table expressed a need to get more information, find out more about the expectations, what was the curriculum that their students would be undertaking and next?," he said. YK 1 board members and employees will be discussing all of the ideas at their retreat this weekend. Stephenson adds it was a very postitive experience overall.
