Yellowknife, N.W.T. - It’s the most wonderful time of the year for any political junkie within Yellowknife as candidates for the city council are beginning their campaigns.

One familiar name that Yellowknifers will see running for re-election to city council is Cory Vanthuyne, who is looking to return for a second term.

Vanthuyne said the experience he has gained over the past three years has been very beneficial.

"Now after having one term under my belt, call it a learning curve of sorts. I feel I have reached a point now where I can hopefully contribute at even a slightly higher level, now that I have a better understand of the municipal government process."

Vanthuyne said he is excited about the mix-up that will be happening in council.

  "There is defiantly going to be some change on council, possibly four incumbents that are not going to be running again."

He added he would like to help push for the growth of downtown if he does get back on council.
