YK city council candidate wants to focus on social issues

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 - 2:53 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - After pulling out of the last municipal election, Linda Bussey has taken the last three years to study and become well versed on current issues and is ready to take another crack at city council.

Bussey said she believes there have been good things done by the previous council but she feels more can be done with current social issues by focusing on the entire city, not just downtown.

Bussey said if elected, she would enter council with an open mind, a mentality she believes every councillor needs.

"You have to be open, even people who are incumbents that are re-elected have to have a very open mind. I think there are a lot of issues that need to be readdressed."

Bussey said when deciding to run there was one thing she promised herself.

"I was going to be true to myself and to my ideas. I want people to vote for me because they think I can do the job and that I can move things and talk for them and be a champion for them."

Bussey added she believes the new council has to make sure they have strong communication with administration and residents.
