NewsMinister of Transportation David Ramsay Working To Improve Wait Times
Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Concerns surrounding the current wait times for getting your licences in Yellowknife have been brought to the fore front by multiple MLAs. Range Lake MLA Daryl Dolynny said residents brought it to his attention that the wait time to complete the process of getting your full license can take up to three months. Minister of Transportation David Ramsay said 60% of the driving test takes place within Yellowknife by one examiner, which is a contributing factor to the wait, but they are making move to improve this. "Staff are working on a plan right now to reduce the waiting times in Yellowknife by training and utilizing highway transport officers to enhance that program, especially during vacations and other issues that may arise." Dolynny said he was pleased to see these measures being taken, but he was curious on how it will be monitored, Ramsay had this response.
"I’m an MLA, I have got constituents as well, the members have constituents and we hear from our constituents if services are up to par, and if it’s taking longer than three months to receive a driving license we are going to hear about it."
Hay River South MLA Jane Groenewegen also pointed out in Hay River the process only takes two weeks.
