Pinning Of the 1st Poppy Ceremony Takes Place at JTFN

Yellowknife, N.W.T. -The JTFN was the site Friday afternoon for the first event to kick off two weeks of Remembrance events leading up to Remembrance Day on November 11th.

The event saw generations come together to begin remembering all of the men and women who have been or are currently fighting for the country.

Commanding officer for the JTF Francois Laniel said who was on hand for the ceremony.

"The oldest vets that are in the region from WW2 and a representative from the front level of government and a young member of the Canadian Forces who represents the future vet, the active vet."

He said it is important for residents to realize that there are veterans within our own community.

"Absolutely, there is an aboriginal veteran there is local veterans, across the country it is important for part of the nation to remember that event."

Laniel added that they now encourage residents to pick up at poppy at different locations throughout the city and wear them until the 11th.
