Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Side Door Youth Centre is one of the 105 community based organizations that's have been given money through the Royal Bank of Canada after School Grants Project

The Side Doors program director, Chris Cobbler, said RBC has been a major contributor to their core funding over the last few years through this grant and it will do great things for their after school program.

Cobbler said receiving the grant around this time of the year in important because it allows them to prepare for the holiday season.

"It helps us to give the kids a little bit of a Christmas and in a lot of cases some of our youth don’t have a stable home or may not be as privileged as some of the other youths. So it gives us a chance to help all of them and facilitate the program."

Cobbler explained what issues the will try and help the youth with through programs like these.

“Speak specifically to their needs and the challenges they face and help us to conquer some of those devastations like bullying in schools and substance abuse, things like that."

The Side Door will receive $25,600 through the grant.
