NewsBisaro Supports More NWT Days In Ottawa
Yellowknife, NWT - At least one member of the legislative assembly says NWT Days last week in Ottawa were so successful politicians should look at making them a regular affair. Frame Lake MLA Wendy Bisaro said they were a tremendous vehicle for promoting the Northwest Territories. She said she understands, promotion like that doesn't come cheap, but Bisaro added it was taxpayers money well spent. "I was a little skeptical coming down, nor having sort of been to Ottawa and done this sort of lobbying type effort before. It is extremely worthwhile and I am quite taken by the amount of interest in the North and NWT in particular that we have received from every group that we've talked to." Bisaro said despite getting most of the attention devolution was not the only topic on the agenda. "Hydro is one. Sustainable housing is another. 'Mackenzie Valley fibre optic link, the Inuvik-Tuk Highway and sustainable development were among the other issues discussed." Bisaro said NWT days went a long way towards not only promoting the North as a great place to do business, but dispelled myths about the North, and also set it up as a tremendous tourist destination.
