Tuesday, April 10, 2012 - 12:41 PM

Yellowknife, N.W.T. -The NWT Chamber of Commerce held its Annual General Meeting last week and president Hughie Graham can now take the word "acting" off his title.

Graham was acclaimed as the new president of the Chamber, but has been filling the role since the resignation of Chuck Parker in February.

As president, he said he'll be advocating for a number of things for the Chamber.

"We currently advocate for the regulatory improvements. We advocate for the Mackenzie Valley Highway, the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline, the Mackenzie Valley fiber optic link, hydro improvements and specially the Talston expansion and devolution," said Graham.

In addition to those, Graham said they have some specific priorities they want to see through.

"We also want to comment on that northern exposure that is bleeding to the South. We want to make sure we are able to retain people to the North rather then have fly in fly out communities," said Graham.

At the awards ceremony, Tlicho Air was named business of the year, while First Air's Western Region Director of Sales Mike Olson was name business person of the year.
