Yellowknife, N.W.T. - As far as the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs is concerned, the investigation in the town of Hay River is officially closed.

MACA released its findings earlier this week based on two sets of investigations done in the wake of allegations made by former mayor Kelly Schofield last month following his resignation.

MACA's director of community governance, David Kravitz, said nothing criminal was going on, but some problems were found.

"The problems were not problems that we don't find in other municipalities and that there were ways that we thought we could move forward with the community to address some of these problems and build some capacity in the community so they don't occur again."

MACA also suggested 18 recommendations for the town to work on, including making the by-laws a little more modern.

"The bylaws were in many cases out of date and difficult to follow in terms of operations, so that's certainly one of our recommendations is that they should look at some of their operating bylaws and bring them up to date."

In a press release, Mayor Ken Latour said he hopes the investigation would put to bed the issue of any wrong-doing in the town.
